User Registration and Verification Policy
Effective Date: June 1, 2025
1. Purpose
The Assault & Shooter (A&S) alert mobile application is a critical life-saving tool intended to enhance emergency response and personal safety during active threat situations. To maintain the integrity, security, and legal compliance of the platform, strict user registration and verification protocols are required.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all individuals using the A&S mobile application, including but not limited to:
- College and university students
- Non-college users (high school or lower grades, employees, faculty, contractors, and security personnel)
- Minor students (under 18 years of age, where applicable)
3. College Student User Requirements
3.1. School Affiliation
Students must select the college or university they are enrolled in from the pre-approved drop-down menu during registration.
3.2. Student ID Verification
Students must upload a valid student ID to verify active enrollment.
3.3. Students’ Major, Graduation Date, and Physical Address
This information will help security personnel during campus alert activations. Knowing who activated the alert is crucial in assessing the safety needs of that individual and those around them.
3.4. College Students Deactivation
Students will be notified that college features will be deactivated after graduating. These dates are triggered by the information entered during registration.
3.5. Consent to Terms
Before continuing to use the application, students must read and agree to the following:
“I understand that I am required to provide non-optional information, including my school affiliation and valid student ID, in order to access and use this security application as a college student.”

Failure to comply will result in denied access to A&S services.
4. Non-College User Requirements
For users not affiliated with a college or university, verification requirements will be defined by their respective institution or employer. These may include:
- Official organization or employer selection from a drop-down menu
- Verification of employment ID or badge number
- Confirmation via internal administrator or supervisor
5. Parental Consent for Minors
If the institution permits students under the age of 18 to use the A&S application:
- Parental or guardian consent is required before registration is complete.
- Parents/guardians must review and sign a digital consent form confirming understanding of:
- The purpose of the application
- The data that will be collected
- How the data will be used and protected
- This consent form must be stored by the institution or collected by the app administrator prior to enabling access.
6. FERPA Compliance
- Personally Identifiable Information (PII) collected for verification is protected under FERPA guidelines.
- Student data is only used for verification and emergency notification.
- Data will not be shared with third parties without consent unless required by law.
- Users have the right to request access to their data, request corrections, or revoke data retention consent, in line with FERPA.
Educational institutions using A&S must ensure compliance with FERPA and local/state privacy laws.
7. Data Privacy and Security
- Data is transmitted securely using end-to-end encryption.
- All documents and personal details are stored per federal and institutional protection standards.
- Access to sensitive user data is limited to authorized personnel only.
8. Enforcement
Providing false information or bypassing verification steps will lead to suspension or permanent removal. Audits may be conducted to ensure user compliance.
